Hilda Walter celebrated her 103rd birthday at the local nursery with her daughter, son-in-law, and friends from her Arcare home in Slacks Creek.
“It was a lovely birthday trip to the nursery, and I feel very happy about it. I enjoy being outdoors among the fresh air,” Hilda shared.
The celebration included an outdoor afternoon tea with cakes from Lorikeet Café at the Nielsen’s Native Nursery.
“Hilda is the oldest client within our Arcare Slacks Creek community, and we wanted to organise something special for her to celebrate this milestone,” Lifestyle Coordinator Mary said.
“It was also great to have Hilda’s family and friends there to share in this special occasion.”
Growing up in Indooroopilly, Hilda has always been an avid gardener.
“We used to garden a lot; we grew our own flowers and vegetables and I enjoyed picking them. Our garden was small, but we used up every space that we had. I had 90 roses at one point,” Hilda shared.
Hilda maintained an active lifestyle and would fill her weekends with gardening, tennis and walking – all of which might have contributed to her birthday milestone.
“I feel very lucky to have turned 103 years old; I live a normal life and I just take it one day at a time,” Hilda shared.
