A New Financial Year A Fresh Opportunity

Business Talk with Tanya Glancy

WITH the start of a new financial year now upon us, many business owners are focused on budgets, reporting, and planning for the months ahead. While these tasks are important, I believe this time of year is also the perfect opportunity to take a step back and look at your business from a broader perspective.

Within our Hive Networking Groups, one of the workshops we regularly run is called Reflect, Reset and Revitalise Your Business. It is a simple but powerful exercise that encourages business owners to pause, review where they are, and create a clear direction for the future.

The first step is to Reflect.

Take a moment to look back over the past twelve months. What worked well? What challenges have you overcome? What lessons have you learnt? It can be easy to focus on what did not go according to plan, but there is often tremendous growth hidden within the challenges we have already navigated. Looking back can provide valuable insight into the path ahead.

The second step is to Reset.

As business owners, we are constantly adapting to changing customer needs, economic conditions, and market trends. This is the time to ask yourself what can be improved, what opportunities exist, and how you can better connect with your customers. Sometimes a reset is not about making major changes. It can be as simple as refining your systems, improving communication, or focusing more energy on what is already working.

The final step is to Revitalise.

This is about looking forward with renewed focus and energy. Keep your attention on what you can control rather than what you cannot. Celebrate the wins, no matter how small. Surround yourself with people who encourage and support your growth. Most importantly, continue looking ahead and focusing on the opportunities available to you.

A new financial year is not about having all the answers. It is about creating clarity, identifying opportunities, and moving forward with intention. Business success is rarely built through one major decision. More often, it comes from small, consistent actions taken over time.

No matter what the previous year looked like, the new financial year offers a fresh opportunity to learn, grow, and create momentum. Sometimes all it takes is a moment to reflect, a willingness to reset, and the courage to revitalise your vision for what comes next.
