Halloween is creeping closer and, among the historic buildings of Beenleigh, some visitors believe the past isn’t quite ready to stay buried. Welcome to the strange stories of five ghostly residents said to call Beenleigh Heritage Park & Museum home.
WHEN the sun goes down at Beenleigh Heritage Park & Museum, its historic buildings apparently don’t always go quietly into the night.
There are unexplained noises, mysterious figures, unsettling encounters and even stories of a piano with a mind or perhaps a musician of its own.
With Halloween approaching, Logan Local is going ghost hunting.
Beenleigh’s historic precinct at 205 Main Street contains about 20 heritage buildings, including the old St George Anglican Church, Beenleigh Council Chambers, Wilkie’s General Store and Loganholme One Teacher School.
Packed with historic objects and stories stretching back to the 1860s, it is already a fascinating window into Logan’s past.
Apparently there are at least five spectral locals worth knowing.
Teddy — the playful little girl
Carroll House has developed a reputation among paranormal enthusiasts as one of the most active buildings on the grounds. Built in the 1890s and later relocated from James Street to the historical village, the house is said to be frequented by a young girl investigators call “Teddy” or “Kitty”. The presence has been described as playful and innocent and in the past during tours has asked visitors to follow her into another room.
Investigators have reported hearing dripping water in a bathroom despite finding the sink dry and no obvious source for the sound.
Michael — the one you don’t want to meet
If Teddy is the playful presence of Carroll House, “Michael” is said to be quite the opposite.
Past tour participants have reported aggressive and disturbing encounters attributed to Michael, including feeling struck and hearing threatening or sexually violent language during sensory-deprivation sessions.
Friendly neighbourhood ghost, he is not.
The musician still looking for his band
Thankfully, not every ghost story at Beenleigh comes with a warning label.
A mysterious figure dubbed “the musician” is said to wander the gardens.
Paranormal investigators believe he could be connected to a musician who died in a tour-bus crash and say the spirit appears to be searching for his missing bandmates.
The lady at the piano
Every good haunted location needs a piano.
Stories surrounding the village include a mysterious female presence associated with a piano and reports of unexplained musical activity. Requests are presumably taken after midnight.
