Barking up the right screen as Logan’s Underdog Film Fest unleashes emerging talent as filmmakers from across Australia take their stories to the big screen.
LOGAN City’s First Independent Film Fest, Underdog Film Fest, took place at Kingston Butter Factory last month as the event saw emerging filmmakers and industry leaders travel to Logan from across Australia to connect, learn and celebrate their works on the big screen.
The festival brought the glitz and glamour of a red-carpet event to the local community, while providing a welcoming environment for filmmakers, creatives and audiences alike.
For the first time, Underdog Film Fest ran across two days, screening 48 short films alongside a program of workshops and panel discussions.
Panavision’s ‘Behind the Lens’ workshop attracted both creatives and cinematographers, giving attendees the opportunity to get up close with the high-end cameras and lenses used on many feature films.
Essential Screen Skills’ ‘Networking 101’ workshop was a hit with high school and tertiary students, who gained practical skills in connecting with industry professionals. The acting workshop for children aged 8–12, run by Murran Kain, was also a popular choice.
Bus Stop Films brought valuable insight into accessibility on set and in production through its ‘Future Proofing Your Production’ panel discussion in the Butterbox Theatre. The session encouraged an open and inclusive approach to filmmaking and took place between screenings.
This inclusive film festival celebrates and champions the underdog spirit, showcasing the unique perspectives of diverse storytellers at an industry level.
