Logan’s reigning champions are building momentum at the perfect time, with Leah Scott leading a star-studded squad on another march towards NBL1 North glory.
THE reigning NBL1 North Women’s champions are sending a clear warning to the rest of the competition – the Logan Thunder are gathering momentum at exactly the right time of year.
Five consecutive victories throughout June have propelled the Thunder into serious championship contention once again, with the defending premiers looking every bit as dangerous as the side that lifted the title last season.
Sitting second on the ladder with an outstanding 9-1 record, Logan has built its success on a blend of star power, experience and remarkable depth. At the centre of it all is league MVP contender Leah Scott, whose dominant form continues to light up the competition.
The Thunder’s winning streak began with an emphatic 85-66 victory over the North Gold Coast Seahawks at Runaway Bay. Scott led the charge with 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Prasayus Notoa added 10 points and eight boards.
Logan then travelled to the Sunshine Coast and overcame the Phoenix 92-81. Scott again delivered with 18 points and seven rebounds, while veteran captain Mik Cann showcased her leadership with eight points and eight assists.
Back on home court, Logan weathered a tough challenge from the Rockhampton Cyclones, emerging with an 87-81 victory. Scott produced one of her best all-round performances of the season, finishing with 26 points, seven rebounds and eight assists. Madelyn Allen added 21 points, while Cann continued to steer the ship with 11 points, six rebounds and nine assists. Notoa also made her presence felt with seven points and seven assists.
The loudest thunderclap of the month came against Southern Districts, the same team Logan defeated in last year’s championship series.
The Thunder delivered another statement performance with a dominant 91-71 victory at Carina. Scott exploded for 27 points and eight rebounds, while Cann rolled back the years with a vintage display of 25 points, five rebounds and six assists.
Logan completed its perfect June with a convincing 99-77 victory over the South West Metro Pirates.
While Scott’s MVP-calibre season continues to attract attention, what makes Logan particularly dangerous is its depth.
Allen, Notoa and Amandine Toi provide scoring punch and versatility, while Cann remains the steady hand guiding the group through every challenge.
With a difficult North Queensland road trip looming with the double header of Cairns Dolphins and Townsville Flames before a final home game against the struggling Ipswich Force, the Thunder appear to be building intensifying towards another finals campaign.
And if June was any indication, the forecast for the rest of the league looks increasingly stormy.
