Meet the Principal Leading with Purpose at Kimberley College

AT Kimberley College, education is about more than timetables and assessments.

Under the leadership of Principal Mr Glenn Johnson, it is about shaping character, fostering belonging and helping students understand the value of showing up with purpose.

This year, the College community has embraced a student-led theme that reflects that philosophy: “Suit Up, Show Up.”

While simple in wording, Mr Johnson believes the message carries real weight.

“Showing up isn’t just about being present,” he said.

“It’s about understanding why you are here and choosing to give your best because of it.”

Across the College, that sense of purpose is visible every day. It appears when students wear their uniform with pride, engage in learning, train hard on the sports field, rehearse for performances or challenge themselves on camp. These everyday moments, Mr Johnson explains, are where purpose is lived out — and where growth happens.

Purpose also creates belonging. For Mr Johnson, wearing the uniform says I belong here. Preparing for learning says my effort matters. Supporting peers says we matter. It is not about fitting in, but about contributing meaningfully to a shared community.

Mr Johnson recognises that school life is not without challenge. Parents see the tired nights, the pressure of assessments and the complexities of friendships. Yet he views these moments as essential.

“That’s where character is formed,” he said.

“Purpose keeps students steady when things are difficult.”

He credits families as vital partners in this process, noting that routines, encouragement and conversations at home reinforce the values being developed at school.

As Principal, Mr Johnson leads with a clear message: every student can lift the culture of Kimberley College by how they show up each day — not perfectly, but deliberately.

His guiding belief is simple: We don’t just attend — we contribute. We don’t just participate — we commit. We show up with purpose.
