Logan’s teenage singing sensation takes centre stage
Fifteen-year-old Daisha Auda had never taken a singing lesson, but one breathtaking performance on The Voice Australia was enough to leave four international music stars fighting to mentor her.
WHEN Daisha Auda stepped onto The Voice Australia stage, she was an unknown 15-year-old from Logan with a dream and a remarkable voice.
Just minutes later, she had become one of the breakout stars of the new season.
Delivering a breathtaking rendition of Lizzo’s Cuz I Love You, Daisha produced the sort of audition contestants dream about, earning the ultimate endorsement as all four celebrity coaches spun their chairs in a frantic bid to secure the teenager for their team.
“I had a mixture of excitement and nervousness when auditioning in front of the coaches, so much adrenaline was running through me I didn’t know how to feel, and when I realised I had a four chair turn I was in disbelief and overwhelmed with so much emotion,” Auda said.
“It’s been a wild ride already, there’s been so much emotion knowing that I am not only doing this for myself but for my family and my community and all the young people that look just like me.”
Ronan Keating, Kate Miller-Heidke, Richard Marx and Melanie C were all left stunned by the raw power and maturity of a voice that had never been shaped by formal lessons.
In the end, it was Ronan Keating who won the battle for Logan’s newest rising star.
Family members waved handmade “Logan Proud” signs as they watched Daisha light up the stage before rushing out to embrace her following a standing ovation.
Former Daisy Hill State School teacher Alice Honnery said the performance reflected the same qualities Daisha displayed in the classroom.
“Daisha was an absolute pleasure to teach and a truly memorable student,” she said.
“She possessed an exceptional singing voice, yet always remained humble and unassuming about her incredible talent.
“Daisha’s kindness, humility and natural ability made her a wonderful role model, and I have no doubt she will continue to achieve great things.”
The biggest surprise of the night came after the performance, when the coaches learned Daisha was only 15 years old.
Former Spice Girl Melanie C could barely contain her excitement.
“Wow, that performance was incredible. You didn’t just fill this room – you took the roof off,” she said.
Ronan Keating described the audition as “mesmerising”.
“You have no idea how good you are,” he told the young singer.
