More Than a Place to Study

THE Beenleigh University Hub is changing the way Logan residents study and succeed from one Logan psychology student through to a 66 year old taking his first daunting steps into cybersecurity.

For students juggling university or vocational education with work, family and everyday life, simply finding somewhere quiet to open the laptop can sometimes be half the battle.

But the federally funded Beenleigh hub offers more than desks, computers and Wi-Fi, with workshops, social activities and academic, wellbeing and career support helping create the connections often missing from remote study.

From the supermarket to a new career

For one Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) student, studying online had been isolating but after registering with the hub in 2025, staff encouraged her to attend workshops, game nights and morning teas to meet other students feeling the same way.

“I have never felt so inspired! It was incredible having so many people from such diverse backgrounds to learn from,” she said.

“I wouldn’t have the connections or the opportunities I have without the Study Hub!”

Learning has no age limit

Across the hub, another student was facing an entirely different challenge, at 66, he had decided to tackle cybersecurity despite having no IT background.

With assignments approaching and unfamiliar concepts piling up, he arrived overwhelmed and unsure how he would make it through his first unit.

Hub staff connected him with another IT student and the pair began working through the challenges together.

“I am really grateful for the help and assistance extended to me by the Hub and the other students,” he said.

“It broadened my understanding of some hurdles I got stuck on. I can sleep again!”

A campus closer to home

Located about two minutes’ walk from Beenleigh train station, the hub is free for eligible students aged 16 and over enrolled in university or vocational education and training.

Alongside study spaces, computers, printing and fast Wi-Fi, registered students can access the secure facility by PIN from 6am to midnight, seven days a week.

For Logan students, however, its greatest resource may simply be the people studying beside them.
