Forget the usual Saturday morning debate about where to grab a coffee. In Yarrabilba this spring, the coffee is coming to you – or at least to a park near you.
Coffee in the Park is popping up across the community throughout September and October, serving free barista-made brews while giving locals an excuse to discover a few new patches of green along the way.
And with 25 parks scattered around Yarrabilba, there are plenty of places waiting to be explored.
The concept is refreshingly simple: take a morning stroll, round up the family, bring a friend or wander down solo and collect a complimentary caffeine hit.
The coffee cart will set up from 8.30am to 10.30am each weekend, with 200 free coffees available at each stop.
First cab off the coffee rank is Neumann Park on September 5, followed by Billuberra Park on September 12.
Buxton Park gets its turn on September 19 before the coffee caravan rolls into Mallee Park on September 26.
October brings another two chances to get your weekend brew for free, with Daybreak Park hosting the cart on October 3 and Greenstone Park rounding out the tour on October 10.
Beyond providing a morning pick-me-up, Coffee in the Park is about getting people to venture beyond their usual corner of Yarrabilba.
The community’s network of parks and green spaces has been designed to encourage active lifestyles, outdoor recreation and those increasingly rare moments when neighbours actually meet each other somewhere other than the local Facebook group.
So grab the dog, dust off the walking shoes, load the kids into the pram and follow the smell of freshly brewed coffee.
You might discover a new favourite park.
You might meet a new neighbour.
And, at the very least, you’ll get a free coffee out of it.
