Survey goal to improve disability services

People living with disability are being asked to take part in a state government-funded survey which aims to help improve inclusion and services.

This is the second year the ‘Voice of Queenslanders with Disability’ survey has been undertaken to help government, business and service providers understand what is working in different areas – such as employment, getting support, health and wellbeing – and to enhance services and programs. The survey also aims to find out how different areas are changing over time. The survey is open for responses until 11 March.

Minister for Disability Services and Member for Jordan Charis Mullen said last year’s survey showed that, for most Queenslanders, progress is being made but there is more to do.

“The people who know this best are Queenslanders living with disability, their families and their carers – which is why we need to hear from them directly. The survey is an opportunity to tell us what is getting better, what is getting worse, and what we need to do to build a more inclusive Queensland,” she said.

Queenslanders with Disability Network (QDN) is working with Griffith University to collect the information, which will be published in an annual report showing trends on the social and economic participation of people with disability and their experiences of services.

Last year’s survey showed life had improved for one in three Queenslanders living with disability, their family and carers, compared to the previous year.

The number of National Disability Insurance Scheme participants in the state is forecast to grow to more than 200,000 people in the next decade.

By conducting the survey annually, it is expected to show over time where the lives of people with disability in Queensland are improving, while monitoring progress of actions under the ‘Queensland Disability Plan 2022–2027: Together, a better Queensland’.

Questions are based on employment and financial security; inclusive homes and communities; safety, rights and justice; personal and community support; education and learning; health and wellbeing; and community attitudes.
