Queensland’s biggest indie author festival is bringing more than 100 storytellers, cosplay characters, therapy dogs and literary magic to Logan.
IF your idea of a perfect weekend involves getting lost in a good book, meeting the person who wrote it and perhaps snapping a selfie with a therapy dog who’s also an author, then clear your calendar.
The Carnival of Words Author Expo is rolling into Eagleby this month, transforming Distillery Road Market into a wonderland of words, imagination and creativity.
Billed as Queensland’s largest independent and local author festival, the free community event will bring together more than 100 authors under one roof across two jam-packed days of books, storytelling and family fun.
From pulse-racing thrillers and heartwarming romances to fantastical adventures and children’s tales, there will be enough literary talent on display to keep even the most devoted bookworm happily occupied for hours.
But this isn’t your average book fair.
Visitors can have books personally signed by their favourite authors, hear fascinating behind-the-scenes stories about how novels are created and discover new writers before everyone else catches on.
Young readers will find plenty to love too, with Miss Maker’s magical cubbyhouse, storytelling sessions and face painting helping bring stories to life beyond the page.
Then there’s the festival’s most unexpected celebrity guest — a therapy dog with its own book.
Yes, really.
Cosplay fans are encouraged to unleash their inner wizard, superhero, princess or sci-fi legend during the cosplay runway, where children and adults alike can show off their costumes to an appreciative crowd.
Adding to the atmosphere will be a collection of bookish vendors offering everything from literary-inspired gifts and artwork to unique treasures for readers who simply can’t leave without taking something home.
One of the highlights of the weekend will be Saturday’s Author Meet and Greet session, giving readers the chance to chat directly with the creative minds behind the stories lining their bookshelves.

Carnival of Words Author Expo will be held at Distillery Road Market, Eagleby, on July 11 and 12 from 10am to 4pm.
